Centro Storico Performing Arts Center
Rome, Italy

Concept Design: Shaner & Co.
Area: 55,000ft²

A theater for the performing arts in a public square in Centro Storico of Rome, Italy. A design carved from history, revealing formal and material qualities that are characteristic to its past and present place.

A palette of primarily limestone, custom-render shotcrete, terrazzo, plaster, and bronze. An architecture that emphasizes a part-to-whole approach to design, highlighting the carved negative spaces in the interior and their relationship not only to one another but to the overall “block” of stone.
