Coastal Residence
Ventura CA, USA

Concept Design: Shaner & Co.
Area: 3,300ft²

A private residence embedded along the California coastline, consisting of one main-house and one remodeled pool-house, that makes sure every space prioritizes the views of the surroundings. An architecture that derives its experience from the atmosphere of its place.

The residence provides privacy from the main road with heavier materials and support while still letting natural light pass through corridors and spaces. The architecture opens up, favoring the views of the Pacific Ocean and the coastline to the north and south.

Materials include in-situ, board-formed concrete pours with varying patterns to emulate the raw and unpredictable patterns in nature, as well as stones collected from the coastline, reclaimed woods both finished and burnt with Japanese techniques, and weathered iron, steel, and bronze
